Sagar: Engineering at Infinitus This is part of a series of blog posts featuring some of the amazing talent we have working on the technology behind Infinitus. This week, we’re excited to be featuring Sagar Gokhale. Sagar has been focused on infrastructure at Infinitus. He has been making sure that our systems are fast, secure and scalable. Why did you choose to join Infinitus? I was introduced to Infinitus by my friend Conal. I had worked with him for some time before and he was very excited to tell me about this company using NLP for a unique and cutting edge application. After meeting with the team, I understood why Conal was so enthusiastic about Infinitus. It is rare to find a group of smart folks working on cool technology, and also solving a real problem! Having worked in mostly later stage start-ups before, I thought this was a great opportunity for me to contribute at an earlier stage and learn from the amazing team along the way. What are you working on right now? I have been working on two big initiatives: data security and speech-to-text quality. As we work with large healthcare institutions and handle personal health information of tens of thousands of patients, it is table stakes that our systems are secure, our data warehouses are segmented by customer, and data retention policies set in a way that respects the platforms and customers needs with the need for data security. I’ve worked on parts of our security framework to enable many of these abilities. Improving speech to text quality is a critical component of our pipelines. The output from this initial step is a gating factor in our ability to enable our digital assistants to hold their own in a live conversation. My recent work has been to work with our speech to text implementation and improve the quality of conversation transcriptions by taking the context and domain specific hints into account so that the folks we’re calling can have a much better experience. What is the favorite part about working for Infinitus? Without a doubt, my favorite part about working here is the fact that I get to work with this team. Every day, I’m learning so much just by being around everyone here. The engineering team, bringing experience in everything from natural language processing to high performance backend architectures to amazing user interface design. The operations team, bringing a deep understanding of the healthcare industry and knowledge of how and where we can improve efficiency. And the exec team, who have been through the startup cycle before and who know what it takes to build a successful product. And then when I hear folks expressing how they had a great experience with Eva (one of our digital assistants), that’s just the cherry on the cake! What are 3 words to describe Infinitus? Humble, Smart, Pragmatic What advice do you have for prospective Infinitus candidates? At Infinitus, you can be a part of a smart, supportive team that is working on a product that is not only a tough technical challenge to figure out, but is solving a very real problem. Help us make the lives of people better right now, and pave the way for even more groundbreaking automation in the future! What’s something you are passionate about outside of work? Outside of work, I love the outdoors. We’re fortunate to be in a place where there is so much to do outdoors. Long hikes through redwood forests, or bike rides to the beach or even just going for a nice walk in the park are some of my favorite weekend activities. I also love food! I like discovering, eating and then learning how to make food from all over the world. Although, I dread the day I get interested in baking.
